Candice Bergen's husband Marshall Rose has died aged 88.

The Sex and The City star's spouse, who she wed in 2000, passed away peacefully at home in New York surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, February 15.

He died from complications with Parkinson's disease after 'many years of extraordinary strength and resilience', an online obituary read.

The real estate magnate and philanthropist is survivedby Candice; his children Wendi and Andrew; his step-daughter Chloe; and his grandchildren Alexander, Clio, Ell, Milo, Arthur, and Alice.

Bergen, 78, was previously married to film director Louis Malle from 1980 until his death from cancerin 1995. They share one daughter, Chloe, 40.

Life-long New Yorker Marshall was born in BrightonBeach in 1937.

One of Candice's most famed roles is as Vogue editor Enid Frick in Sex and The City and spin-off, And Just Like That...

He studiedeconomics at City College, received a law degree from NYU, and later an honorary degree from CUNY.

He forged a career as a real estate developer and advisor to non-profits, andfounded The Georgetown Company in 1978 which went on to oversee the development of projects including Frank Gehry's IAC building and the renovation of Madison Square Garden.

He spent 30 yearson the board of the New York Public Library.

Rose's family lauded his 'legacy of fierce compassion, stubborn persistence, and commitment to cheering on the Knicks.

'His wisdom, strength, and generosity of spirit will be remembered by the countless people whose lives he touched.

His funeral will take place at Central Synagogue on Tuesday, February 18th, at 12pm.

In a 2015 interview with her Miss Congeniality co-star Sandra Bullock, Bergen reflected on her relationship with Rose, saying she wanted to work less to spend more time with him.

She told Interview: 'You know, I’m not that ambitious. I’m always grateful when I get offered something that engages me, it’s for the right amount of time, and I don’t have to leave my husband for more than a week or two. That’s really all I ask.'

Bullock reflected on shooting the 2000 film, the same year Bergen wed Rose, with Bergen saying: 'We had just gotten married! We started shooting when our honeymoon was supposed to happen.'

Bullock added: 'We were on that location on the stage. He was there—I don’t know what we were doing—but I remember looking across, and you were giddy. It was the sweetest thing.

'He was so demonstrative with you. He was, like, touching your face, saying goodbye or something, [Bergen laughs] and the affection, the sweetness … We were all on the other side of the stage, a little bitter. We were all going, “Wow. We have nothing. We have absolutely nothing.'

Bergen was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Starting Over (1979) and for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Gandhi (1982).
